Developement of spawn and tadpoles:
04. May (spawning)
16-19:00 egg center completely round
1st day after spawning
11:00 egg center oblong
15:00 flexed shaped tadpoles
21:00 nearly straight shaped tadpoles, tadpoles only slightly hang on the thin egg strings,
first movements
2nd day after spawning
09:00 distinct movements, straight shape of tadpoles
10:30 first tadpoles get rid of the egg strings and swim around, size approx. 3-4 mm,
colour white - light grey, no eggs are infected by fungus, except of very few eggs
all developped!
16:00 nearly all tadpoles have left the egg strings, if disturbed they whirl around extemely fast
19:00 tadpoles get dark eyes
3rd day after spawning
08:30 at the tadpoles belly the intestinal spiral gets visible, tadpole size approx. 6 mm,
tadpoles start eating
18:00 tadpoles crowd as swarms at the bottom for food intake,
eating seems to happen randomly (they nibble on fish food, stone or glass without difference),
as visible through the belly skin the intestinal spiral gets filled which
means that most tadpoles have eaten meanwhile, food: Tabimin, Tetramin, Spirulina fish food tablets
4th day after spawning
09:00 the colour of the tadpoles gets darker (transparent grey), they swim around very active, differences in size get visible
12:00 1. exchange of water necessary, 1/3 exchanged with fresh tap water
does not make any problems, added many stones with algae and living plants to the fish tanks,
removed the plastic plants with the remainings of the empty egg strings.
Up from this day daily exchange of water, soon even 3/4 fresh tap water without any negative effects.
The tadpoles had to be moved to numerous additional fish tanks a several times as they grew rapidly and
turned out to be much more than I expected. Water got muddy too soon. - Inspite of this losses were
extremely low.
5th day after spawning
tadpoles get a golden glimmer at the lighter coloured parts of the body,
discovered one white tadpole
6th day after spawning
lighter coloured parts of the tadpoles body have a distinct copper-golden glimmer
streaked with black to dark brown, at the transition to the belly side silver, tadpole size approx. 1 cm
body shape less round but getting angular (like in tadpoles with ellbowes in last stage of development),
discovered a second white tadpole but this one has a malformed tail and is very small
7th day after spawning
tadpoles still more angular, the eyes bulge out, pupil horizontal,
size of the largest tadpoles approx. 1,2 cm
9th day after spawning
first transparent hind leg bases are visible, size of the largest tadpoles approx. 1,5 cm
12th day after spawning
hind leg bases are 1-2 mm long, size of largest tadpoles approx. 2,2 cm
<<<
14th day after spawning
belly well pigmented, depending on lighting direction no more transparent but nice silver coloured
15th day after spawning
biggest tadpoles approx. 3 cm, approx. 3 mm long hind legs, hind leg shape gets visible,
development of hind legs independent of tadpole size
17th day after spawning
left gill (?) seems to bend up
18th day after spawning
tadpoles are having 4mm long dark coloured hind legs with visible feet,
left gill (?) much bended up like a small hole,
tadpoles are less hungry and behave much calmer
20th day after spawning
hind legs approx 6 mm long well developped and with well developped feet,
left gill (?) still more bended up, the hole is approx. 3 mm in diameter
21st day after spawning, in the morning
the first tadpoles are having arms, metamorphosis is independent of tadpole size,
largest tadpoles measure approx. 3 – 3,5 cm, hind leg size when bended approx.
5-7mm.
Catched tadpoles having arms and moved them to a container with approx. 1 cm water level
and water plants for climbing out of the water. The tadpoles are difficult to catch.
They flee extemely fast and in the low water level container still are very active.
One white tadpole still has survived but is only approx. 2 cm big and
still has no hind legs nor hind leg bases.
22nd day after spawning, in the evening
The tadpoles which got arms yesterday have a much reduced tail and are sitting
at the container walls outside the water
